Drug lord El Chapo escaped through MILE LONG tunnel under prison

A Mexican drug lord managed to escape from a maximum security prison through a mile-long tunnel, it has emerged.

Embarrassed officials said the tunnel opened into the shower block of Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman’s prison and he escaped last night.

They found a ladder down a 2ft by 2ft wide, 30ft metre deep hole that led to the tunnel.

Quite a lot of work went into the tunnel which was about 5ft 7ins meters high and 2ft 7ins wide and opened up at a building site a mile from Altiplano Federal Prison.

As a result of his escape, flights were suspended from the local airport, buses were being searched, and 18 prison workers are being questioned.
